wolfman and jurgens

Last night on Globe Trekker, Ian Wright went to Malaysia and I found it interesting the places he chose to visit and where he chose not to go. For example, he featured Malacca, an historically important and racially mixed city, but completely bypassed the capital of Kuala Lumpur, which is well known for its famous twin towers. In some ways this makes sense, because the program does try to emphasize the more off the beaten path aspects of a country rather than its tired tourist traps, but at the same time it did seem a little odd to me. Then once he was done with the peninsula portion of the country, he crossed the South China Sea and made his way to Borneo, where he visited an orangutan habitat, which did not surprise me at all.

As entertaining as the episode was for me, I do not think that I will be visiting Malaysia any time soon and it has nothing to do with it being a Muslim country, which the program took a moment to emphasize. I would rather make a return visit to China before I go to Malaysia.

Back in the 1980's, Marv Wolfman was the man responsible for creating the Nightwing persona for the character Dick Grayson so the recent decision by DC to have him write the current Nightwing title made perfect sense to me. Who else could rescue the book after the wave of disgust that readers flung at the title when Bruce Jones was scripting the book? This factor and some glowing reviews that I had read online were still on my mind when I stopped at the local comic book shop this afternoon and purchased the first two issues on his run with Dan Jurgens.

Now having read the two issues, I can say that the praise was justified. Marv and Dan have made a great product and I am curious to see how long the two of them will be around on the book. If I find out that their stay is scheduled for a year, I might even include the book on my monthly pull list.

ABC aired the final episode for the year of Lost and unlike what I am hearing from other people, I will be there to watch again when the season starts again next February. The final fate of Jack, Kate and Sawyer are enough to make me want to return no matter what ending the writers decide to give.
