One disc complete and seven chapters into the audio version of Peter Carey's novel Theft, I have to say that I am thoroughly hooked by the story. I do not recognize the person narrating the tale, but I doubt that the makers of the discs could have chosen a better person to do it. The sound of his voice and his inflections are perfect for the novel and whenever he switches between the main character and his brother the transformation is amazing.

Hearing the Australian accents and their view of life makes me long for the place. It is hard to believe that it was five years ago that I was there for a couple of weeks. Even then I knew that I was going to return at some time in my life, but I have already decided that next year Japan will be my destination so the earliest that I could get to down under would be 2008.

Both John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake are very talented people and I liked their collaboration on the DC title Firestorm many years ago, but the two of them could not convince me to keep Batman on my monthly reading list. Early this morning I read the first installment of what I think is a four issue run of theirs on the book. It was a solid read, but I have come to the conclusion that the world's greatest detective just does not appeal to me.

With only a week left before Christmas, I think that it is time for me to get into the spirit of the holiday. Even though I have had a tree in my place since the third of this month, I haven't let myself get too excited. Maybe once I start wrapping gifts this week, the feeling of cheer will fully take over.
