harley granville barker I cannot say that I disliked the play that I saw tonight nor can I say that I truly liked it. The Voysey Inheritance was meant to explore the moral problem of stealing someone else's money under the pretense that you are helping them. That might sound odd, but that is the crux of the play where we follow a family owned and run investment firm with a long tradition of embezzling the funds of their clients. From what I have been told there is a new version penned by David Mamet, but that is not the version that I saw. Personally I doubt that either version would have impressed me that much, because despite the modern element of the play, I was not overly interested in the plot. The son who inherits the business is appalled by what his father did and wants to set things right even though his siblings are far less troubled by what has been done. Maybe if I could have related to the son or one of his siblings the play would have had more meaning to me. ... Looking back through the journal, I see that this is the second year anniversary of owning a Mac Mini and I still like the machine. |
