amanda laura tom Tonight the Milwaukee Rep did a production of The Glass Menagerie, which generally speaking is a play that I enjoy. In fact it was another production of the very same play that initially brought me to the Milwaukee Rep nine years ago. Not only was it the very first play that I saw at the Milwaukee Rep, but it also made me decide to become a subscriber. There isn't just one thing that appeals to me about the play, there are many elements that elicit a response from me. For example, the story is not a happy one, but that doesn't really matter because I have a tendency to prefer tragedy to comedy anyway. I am not Southern, but the South and its view of the world has always fascinated me. Finally there is the open ended if not odd close to the play. No one wins. |
