gwen mary peter

I was not fond of the first two Spider-Man movies, so my expectations for the third were as low as possible. If I had to give a one-word review of the movie, my word of choice would be painful, because the supposed humor made me wince far more than I wanted. Thankfully the failed attempts at humor were offset by the perfect portrayal of Gwen Stacy by Bryce Dallas Howard. She outshone Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane Watson in every possible way. Sadly Gwen functioned more as a plot device than anything else, but considering that she has been dead in the books for decades any new growth in her personality would have been hard for the writers to create. Oh, I know that they have long abandoned any kind of adherence to what happens in the books, but making any drastic changes to an almost sacred character in the myth would have angered many people who love the books.
