Breaking the Waves

I just got done watching the movie Breaking the Waves. I had read about this film some time ago. Here is how the back of the tape describes the movie.

In 1970s Scotland, a young religious fanatic feels that her prayers are responsible for her husband's paralysis, and so she should also provide for his vicarious sex life afterwards. Watson got an Oscar nomination for her film debut.

Well, that does sum up the movie, but it does leave out some very emotional parts. Bess, the heroine of the story, talks to herself when she prays to god. She provides his response in a lower register of her own voice. Very disturbing stuff. Most reviews that I read described it as art house fair, which is it is in many ways. I mean the general American public does not flock to see this kind of film. I don't regret having renting it, but it bothered me. I have never met someone who was so religious that they would do the things that Bess did in the film.

I am still feeling miserable. I am on day two of my cold. Everything that I drink seems to run out of my nose.
