Job Security

Tony from work called me twice this morning. He had some questions about some changes that I had made to the system on Wednesday before I had left. I had done them on Wednesday rather than leaving them for Tony to do on Friday, because Tony wasn't that comfortable with making the changes. All that he had to do was check to see what I had done. He called because he wasn't too sure if what I had done was right or not.

The basic chain of command is as follows:Nick knows more than I do, I know more than Tony, Kae knows more than all three of us. Its a nice system with an almost assembly line quality to it. We are trying to cross train some more within our department so that it will be more level in the future.

When I got home last night, my downstairs neighbors had cleared away the snow that the plow had shoved at the end of the driveway. This was good to see, because it meant that I wouldn't have to do it in the morning. It also meant that I could sleep late.

I really didn't sleep that much later than I usually do. Besides Tony woke me up anyway when he called this morning. Once I am awake, I'm awake. Going back to sleep really isn't an option for me.

I watched my new Doctor Who episode this afternoon as I snacked on some turkey from yesterday. Then for supper I had some of the ham that I had been given.

When I did finally manage to leave the house today, it was to get my hair cut. It has been bothering me for a while now. When my hair is long (long being very subjective here) it does whatever it wants to do. The wind becomes my enemy and I have a nasty case of bed head every morning when I wake up. Pillows can really sculpt my hair to new heights while I sleep.

So a hair cut was a must for me today. I doubted that there would be anyone in the place tonight, because who besides me gets their hair cut after the holidays. I was right. I was in and out within half an hour.

Getting my hair cut is not nearly as traumatic as it is for women though.

Sometimes its hard to believe that I had an additional seven inches or so of hair for six years. When I finally shed the excess hair, my neck shivered for about a week. It was exposed to the elements and it took some getting used to again.

Shortly after I had gotten my hair cut in college, a woman came up to me in a bar and said that she hated me for cutting my hair. I was like where were you before I cut my hair dear. I guess that its nice to be admired from afar but that doesn't do me any good. Actually more than one person came up to me and asked about my hair when I cut it. Maybe I was more of a bar fixture than I thought. Then again I had looked the same way for six years.

Oh, this reminds me that the local bartender wouldn't let me in when she carded me. I still had long hair in the drivers license photo. She said that she knew this guy. I thought that it was funny. Sure I knew her, I was standing right in front of her.

Those were the days when my roommates could still convince me that hanging out in bars was fun.

Most of the day was spent cleaning and just wandering around the house. Going out would have meant spending money and I really didn't feel like doing that tonight.
