Personal Limits

I really pushed myself this afternoon on the bike. The heat and humidity are still here in Milwaukee, but I chose a route with shade and places to get water along the way. So with my false sense of security in place, I rode farther than I have ever gone this year.

Seeing the city on a bike puts it in a very different perspective. The trails run through the city yet the city looks nicer from the trail. Most of the trails are really the city park system which I am slowly finding out is very extensive.

Essentially I rode the distance from Brenda's place to my place which I do every day by car. I am sure that the trail I took was longer, because it wound around major intersections and took me further south than driving by car would.

On the return trip a clearly more experienced rider passed me by. We were approaching a hill and I had no problem with him taking the lead. For some reason I thought that I should try to pace myself with him as we went up the hill. Well, I made it up the hill not too far behind him, but I was ready to drop as I crested the hill. He was in shape and I could use some improvement.

I don't regret any of my bike ride. I really do need to push myself and its good to be outside. Now I just need to maintain my level of discipline and stick with it for the rest of the summer. The fall is too far away for me to think about yet.
