Sealed in for winter

With Monday here, I am back to a normal nine to five shift as far as my sleep pattern is concerned. Sometimes I stay on the third shift pattern, but I like to get the longest weekend possible by going back to a first shift routine. Maybe this isn't healthy for me, but it's my choice.

I woke up at six this morning ready to start the day. The first thing that I notice is that its quiet and dark. Since I am usually working at that time of day, I have lost track of when the sun rises. Its not a part of my daily routine anymore.

Part of the morning was spent shrinkwrapping the windows in my house. Its the price that I pay for living in a house built at the beginning of this century. Something tells me that insulation wasn't a priority back then. As long as it kept the rain and snow off of them it was good enough.

My heating bills average about forty dollars a month. If I lived in a unit like Brenda I could have my heat included in my rent. She however pays one hundred and thirty dollars more a month than I do. I would rather pocket the extra money every month especially in summer when my gas bill averages about six dollars a month.

What impressed me the most about my insulating project was that I had the foresight last year to buy enough plastic for this year. I saved myself the trouble of having to go out and buy some this year.

Of course, now that I am all sealed in for winter, we are going to warm up briefly tomorrow. The temperature might even reach sixty degrees fahrenheit. However, by the end of the week, the temperature will be back in the thirties.

Most of the evening was spent lying on the couch listening to the Alanis cd with the sound of rain filling in the silence between the songs. I need these quiet moments where I can just lie around listening to music and watching the candles cast shadows on the wall. Its a nice contrast to the rest of the week.

Sleeping at night seems strange, but I like not having to be anywhere for a few nights.
