Restless

Well, I have given up on trying to set a sleeping pattern on my days off. Sleep just seems to happen whenever I feel the need to close my eyes for a while. What this means is that either I get a few hours here and there or I fall asleep for a marathon length of time. For example, I fell asleep last night at nine and then woke up at two in the morning. Since I wasn't sure what to do at two in the morning I went back to sleep until seven. With the constant change in hours its hard to remember what day it is let alone plan something. Plus I think the more that I try to set a schedule the worse it gets.

To end my exciting weekend, I did some more cleaning today with my focus on my kitchen stove and floor. The stove lay dormant most of the summer while I was away and the months of neglect allowed the dust and grease to adhere quite nicely to one another. A day can't get any better than having the smell of lemon cleaner in your nose and the sound of The Maltese Falcon on the television in the background. Sigh. I really need to start planning my weekends again.

After cleaning, I needed to get out of the house. As much as I like my place, twenty-four hours inside does not appeal to me. So I left the house and drove north and east of the city until I found myself at the lakeshore. Part of me knew that was where I was headed, but I took my time in getting there.

What impressed me the most while I drove was the color of the land. Everywhere I looked it was a muted beige mixed with gray. What it needs is a blanket of snow to cover it over for a few months.

Maybe tonight I'll step outside on my lunch break and try to get a glimpse of the Leonids.
