Mac OS 8.5 In an effort to install the new version of operating system on my computer I briefly lost all of my email, my electronic address book and list of bookmarks for my browser. I had made copies of all of the files before I started the process, but in the shuffling that I had to do for the install I misplaced them for a moment. My computer is not an Apple computer, but a Power Computing clone that was made when Apple allowed clones to be made for a time. What this means is that the automated install of Mac OS 8.5 choked on my non Apple hard drive. The goofy program thought that my drive was defective. Then when I tried to do a backdoor install I had to reconfigure my Netscape Communicator preferences and almost lost my email in the process. I think that there is one more way to try and install the software, but it is going to take some more time and involve my external hard drive. So part of the afternoon was spent setting everything back to the way it was on my computer before I started to upgrade. I knew that this might happen, but it didn't make it any less frustrating for me. Then as the sun set so did my energy level for the day.
