Michelangelo sibyl from the Sistine Chapel

ready to go

Nothing encourages a massive housecleaning more than a visit from your mother. Oh, there is no denying that my house needed it, but her coming over was the incentive that I needed to actually do it. She was going to drop off my plane ticket this morning and a camera for me to borrow for the trip. So I ran around the house after work this morning picking up as much debris as possible. Now the floor is finally free of anything that shouldn't be there. Various piles of papers and magazines have been removed and I can skip from room to room without tripping over anything. Something tells me that it is impossible for a man to skip with dignity, so that may not have been the best visual to use, but it sounded funny so it stays. Of course my kitchen table is now buried under piles of debris, but I can live with that until I get back from my trip.

The sleep that I had yesterday was the first real sleep that I have had in days. For the past week my sleep wasn't refreshing sleep, it was more of a why do I feel so awful kind of sleep. More than once I woke up in a sweat when I had my cold, so I really relished the sweat free eight hours of sleep that I had yesterday. I guess that I should be grateful that my cold is gone in time for my trip.

I am still ironing out some of the details before I fly out of Chicago Sunday morning, but I am ready mentally which is the most important part. I usually like to walk the fine line between spontaneity and chaos when it comes to planning things. Most of the remaining tasks are mundane anyway. For example, I need to make one final sweep of the refrigerator to make sure that nothing breeds in there while I am gone.

The waiting has made the last two nights at work seem like an eternity. Even though I have yet to pack, I just want to leave now. If only I could teleport than it would all be so much easier. Bampf ala Kurt Wagner. If anyone else recognizes that early eighties Marvel Comics reference I know that I am not alone in my geek background.

Hmm. A year ago on this date Brenda and I started something that ended last September. Now its a new year and I have a different focus in life. Having access to the state of my life a year ago with a mouse click is far more Billy Pilgrim than I ever thought possible.
