every second counts In an effort to be more organized this year and not waste my weekends, I made a decision to go to the laundromat early this morning. Last year I would do my laundry at night or during the week, but I wanted to see how this new time might work. Well, I was not only early, but I managed to be the first and only person there. I suppose considering that today was the first Monday of the new year I shouldn't see this as being very strange. What was odd was the silence. Not one machine was humming, when I walked through the door and if that had been a computer room that would have been a very bad thing. Once I had the machines loaded, I sat back to read some more of Shampoo Planet. In my reading I discovered that my last few girlfriends were in the wrong age bracket. The difference in our ages was all wrong. We were too close in age. According to Jasmine, a character in the book, there is a Chinese formula for a successful marriage. Half the man's age plus seven is the secret combination. Of course I can think of dozens of reasons as to why this is complete nonsense, but I haven't dated any twenty-two year old women lately to disprove this theory. My second objective this morning was to look for a new computer chair. Sitting in the broken director's chair these past few weeks has really lost its appeal. It would be so nice to be able to sit down and not have the chair fall apart when I do. Before I went to the store I had a certain price in mind, but what fit into that price range didn't impress me. After some observation I quickly learned that the price drops by removing certains options such as arm rests. From what I could tell a chair without arm rests is at least fifty dollars cheaper than one with them. So in the end I walked out of the store with nothing. Another reason I wanted to get an early start on the day was to avoid the snow that was being predicted for the afternoon. The forecast said that it would start with rain in the morning and then slowly change to snow in the late afternoon. I saw this as a minor problem. Even though I live in Wisconsin, people still forget how to drive in the stuff. It almost always takes a snowfall or two for people to get readjusted. Usually I could care less about professional sports, but I got a good laugh this morning from one of our local teams. It seems that the general manager of the Green Bay Packers fired the head coach and his staff and then held a press conference explaining why he did what he did. What I found funny was how he kept dancing around the real reason for the firing. He said that he wanted a well disciplined team when what he really meant was that he wanted a winning team. A losing team does not bring in money and that was what the Packers were this season compared to last year. If his team doesn't win, then that means he doesn't get any money, but of course he can't say it that way to the adoring public. Personally I don't miss all of the extra Packer coverage that was on the local news when they were on top. Not only would most of the sports portion of the news broadcast be centered on the Packers, but there would be interviews with the coach and players right after the news. Overkill would be an understatement for all of the time devoted to something that holds no interest for me. Then again we always have the Badgers to fill up some valuable air time.
