from here to europe I knew that my landlord was coming today to install the central air, but I wasn't quite sure what he needed to do in my part of the house. What I did know was that my house was a mess and I needed to fix that in a hurry. So after getting home from work I had an hour to clean my house before he arrived and I have to say that I impressed myself with the amount of work that I got done in such a short amount of time. Books, papers and magazines that had been covering the floor for weeks were quickly sorted and moved to their proper locations. Of course after my power cleaning session, he didn't finish and said that he would have to come back tomorrow to finish the job. Kelly and I have been getting along rather well at work. In fact she was even more talkative than usual this morning. It seems that her and her boyfriend are off to Las Vegas next week and I asked what she was going to bring me back. She said sand. In an effort to put a sharper focus on my trip, I've been trying to think of why I want to go to Europe. After some thought I guess two primary reasons would be the scenery and the art. A third element would be all of the history there blending everything together. It isn't as though I know people living there, nor do I have any relatives there. I just want to be slightly better than the average dumb American tourist while I'm there. London is a must for me and so is Dublin. Then on to the continent it would be Prague, Paris and St. Petersburg. For some Italian Renaissance I'd include Rome and Florence. Maybe Greece if I had the time. I suppose that it is only natural to target key cities first and worry about the rest later. Then again I could probably spend an entire month in Ireland just biking around the countryside. I'm not looking for glamour on my trip. I want sublime. I know that most of my conception of Europe is built upon things that I've seen on television and movies. History that I learned in school places a distant third in my internal database. What is really bothering me is that I have no idea what my brother is expecting from Europe. Both of us have a liberal arts background, but I think that I'm into it a little more than he is when it comes to art and history. I could be wrong though.
