Michelangelo sibyl from the Sistine Chapel

sunshine and exercise

The wind rattling my window woke me late yesterday afternoon. The gentle snow that I had seen falling before I fell asleep had become nasty and turned the world white while I slept. We didn't get the ten inches that they had been predicting, but we did get enough to make a mess of the roads for the night.

While listening to some music Friday night I came to the conclusion that one of my speakers on my stereo system might be blown. Any deep bass causes some harsh crackling, but I can't exactly be sure what is wrong. Stereo system technology is not something that I know very well. Then again I wouldn't be too surprised if something was wrong with them since I bought them almost ten years ago. Over time my sound system has become woefully outdated, but now the computer has taken precedence in my electronic purchases so I might just have to live with it a little longer. At least I still have a rich sound at lower volumes.

For the first time in months I worked out this morning and it felt good. Being active is definitely something that was missing from my life and doing next to nothing physical all winter did not help either. Now all that I have to do is make it a regular part of my routine and not suddenly stop after a few days. I really want to put some serious mileage on my bike this summer and working out now inside should help me when I get outside later next month.

So often people let themselves go as they grow older and I don't want that to happen to me. I know by looking into the mirror that my body has changed over the last ten years and I don't want things to get worse in the coming ten. I'm not saying that I'll become a fitness nut over night, but at the moment I have to be the slimmest man in my department and I want to keep it that way. Everyone else seems to have gut and that is not something that I desire.

Working out this morning, however, was the highlight of my day. The rest of it just sort of slipped by me and was wasted. At least I got to see the sun shining when I walked out of work before the rest of it went downhill.
