Michelangelo sibyl from the Sistine Chapel

sleeping on sunday

Most of today was wasted and I didn't mean for that to happen. Oh, I may not have done that much yesterday, but sitting outside was nice enough because it was the first time in days that it hadn't rained. Today, however, the rain returned and basically made me sleep the day away. For the few hours that I was awake, I didn't even do any real reading. Instead of reading I sat through the old Time Machine movie with its less than amazing special effects.

About the only productive thing that I did do today was create a definitive timetable for my trip to Europe during my last two hours at work. Seeing everything laid out on one page makes me realize how quickly we will be moving, but I think that it will be a nice contrast to how sedate my life been lately. Now all that I have to do is hand this stuff over to my brother sometime tomorrow. As of Saturday he'll be gone for his National Guard duty and I probably won't get to see him or talk with him again until the end of June or the beginning of July.

Before I fell asleep for the second time today, I watched a great documentary on John Singer Sargent, who happens to be one of my favorite painters. From the very first time that I saw one of his paintings, I loved his style be it his oil paintings or his watercolors. I remember looking for prints of his stuff when bought the Hopper and Vermeer prints, but I couldn't find any online. I could probably look in the gift shop at the Art Institute the next time that I go to Chicago, but I don't know when that will be.
