Michelangelo sibyl from the Sistine Chapel

not much to say

Before I fell asleep this morning, I watched the movie Being John Malkovich. Not only did I think that it was funny, it was probably the best thing that I've seen Cameron Diaz do yet. I couldn't stand her in the movie Something About Mary, but here she was great. She wasn't relying on her looks and actually had to do some acting on her part. Personally I think that this was most intriguing thing that either her or John Cusack has ever done. As for the numerous cameos by other actors, Charlie Sheen was a scream.

On a side note related to the movie, marionettes and puppets in general scare the hell out of me. The whole idea of some inanimate object coming to life is not something that I want to see happen even if it is just a movie and I don't think that I am alone in this belief either. Over the years Hollywood has pumped out numerous movie where dolls come to life and go on a killing spree. Yes, some of them are laughable, but others are downright frightening. I know that a lot of people were bothered by the toy clown coming to life in the movie Poltergeist and I still cheer when Bobby tears that doll apart.

From my understanding the history of puppets in Europe has very sinister aspects to it and I think that Mr. Punch would be a prime example. I mean people die in those shows. Today we like to think of puppet shows as something for children, but this isn't where they got their start. Muppets may be cute and funny, but Mr. Punch is not cuddly. He is one mean bastard that probably wouldn't be approved by public television.

Yes, I know that I am slipping with the journal again, but lately time just seems to be getting away from me more and more often.
