some morning errands

On Mondays I usually relax and sit around the house without feeling too guilty. Today, however, was a little different. Before I let myself slip into full relaxation mode, I was busy all morning and used my time wisely. It was a nice change of pace for me and I might have to try and do it more often.

It all started at around four this morning when I placed an order at Amazon for three guidebooks. After reading so many of them over the past few weeks, I know which ones I like best and I want to have a few with me while I am in Europe. I don't care anymore if it makes me look like a tourist. I would rather have a small safety line than spend all day lost somewhere. Besides just being able to page though something before I start the day in a new foreign city will probably help me more than I can imagine.

Then after taking a small nap, I was on my way to the dentist. I had an appointment to have two cavities filled this morning and it went surprisingly fast. It was the first time in over a decade that I had to have a cavity filled and I couldn't quite remember how long it took or what exactly they would have to do to me.

Once again I have to say that I got extremely lucky with my choice of dentist. For having picked a dentist mainly on location, I have to say that I did a good job. Not only is she friendly, but she has a nice bed side manner for lack of a better description.

From the dentist I made my way to the library where I returned eight guidebooks. In the pile were a mixture of Fodor and Insight guides covering everything from London to Venice. As much as I like the information that the Fodor guides give, I really appreciate the photos in the Insight guides. Reading about an attraction is one thing, but seeing a picture of it is so much better. Now my next step is to see how much the pictures lie.

Then from the library it was back home to pay some bills and call to make a haircut appointment. I have to look my best while I take Europe by storm. My brother may be more of a fashion plate than me, but I don't want to look like a slob either. Of course I have no idea what I'll look like after being on the go all of the time with some drinking mixed in as well.

Early this afternoon I realized that I'd missed a step in going back to school in the fall. Yes, I finally decided on what class I want to take, but I have yet to officially register as a student. It doesn't matter that I've had the timetable for over a month. I can't sign up for any classes until I enroll in the system once again. So tomorrow I hope to get and fill out all of the proper paperwork. I can only hope that some of it gets done before I leave for Europe or that the class that I want is still open when I get back.

Then I kicked back in my lawn chair enjoyed the weather and casually paged through my guidebook on Berlin.
