moving human forms Last night I did something new. For the very first time in my life, I saw a ballet. I'm not too sure why I had never seen one before last night. Maybe it just happened to be one area of the arts that never really grabbed me I guess. Going to the ballet wasn't something that I had planned on doing. Actually it was something that happened as they say at the very last minute. Let me explain. I had probably been awake for maybe an hour or so, when the telephone rang. The voice on the other end belonged to a woman and at first I was thinking that it was a telemarketer. Then before I could hang up, she said her name. The caller was a friend of Donna's that I had met and spoken with a few times. She said that she knew that this was at the last minute, but a friend of hers suddenly couldn't go and she thought that I might be interested. I said yes. Then after getting some more details of where and when I needed to be, I hung up. Once we there and seated, I did and didn't know what to expect. Obviously I knew that there was going to be people dancing on the stage, but I had no idea what kind of dancing or what kind if any story we were going to see. After quickly reading the program I saw that the night was divided into four diferent pieces that were grouped under the heading of Opposites Attract. The first piece that we saw was very traditional complete with the shoes that every little girl must dream of wearing at some time in their life. For me this was the least interesting of the four and at times was a complete cliche. If the other three had been of the same genre I think that I would have been very disappointed. For a contrast the second piece dealt with a pair of lovers. This too left me feeling a little bored. I could appreciate the technical ability of the dancing, but visually speaking it wasn't that interesting. I kept wanting to hear dialogue instead of seeing them trying to express emotions with their bodies. It wasn't working for me and once again became cliche. Then with the third piece they finally captured my attention. I think it was the fact that it was modern in terms of both costuming and technique. Gone were the white tights and pointed slippers. Instead the dancers were clad in something that was more science fiction than traditional. The clothing became secondary to what they were doing with their bodies and the lighting focused more on the movement of their bodies instead of being static. Somehow with these subtle changes everything that they did made more sense to me. The story may have been more abstract, but it also made me interested in what I was seeing. Finally with the fourth piece we were given something akin to a Riverdance production complete with a whole troupe of dancers crisscrossing the stage in what were for me highly erotic outfits. All of the women were dressed in see through black outfits that gave a clear view of the color of their panties. As crude as it might sound seeing twelve or so highly athletic women with red panties shimmering under their outfits tends to get my attention.
