call ahead first

The plan for the day was simple. After saying goodbye to Ann this morning I headed out to visit with my parents. My reason being that my dad had called me twice last week to talk about a couple of things so I felt that it was time for me to go there and spend some time with him. If I remember correctly it had probably been a month or so since I last saw him or any of my family.

Early on a Sunday morning, the roads were mine as I drove west to their place. Here and there along the sides of the road were dustings of snow. Winter had made a small attempt at a comeback during the night. It didn't do very well. Wisconsin may not have an incredibly warm spring, but I am starting to think that it is finally here.

As soon as I pulled into the driveway, I knew that something wasn't right. Then when I went to the front door, I found out what was wrong. No one was home.

Part of me had thought about calling them from work before I left, but I didn't. Looking at the clock I guessed that they might have gone to church and decided to wait for them to return. At most I would have to wait an hour and a half. So after wandering around the house and checking all of the doors, I returned to my car to read my book.

As I said before, spring is here and that made sitting inside the car more than a little uncomfortable. The midday sun was starting to bake me even though the temperature outside the car was only about ten degrees above freezing. Opening a window helped a little.

Despite my waiting, no one appeared an hour and a half later. After leaving a note saying that I was there, I drove back home.

Once I was home, I called to see if I had somehow missed them. Sadly I had. They said that they got home probably five minutes after I had left. Sigh.

After about seven hours of sleep, I made the drive out there for the second time and got to see my dad's remodelling project.
