po-mo karoke I meant to say more about the dream than I did yesterday. I have no idea why I dreamt what I did. Maybe the afternoon storms triggered something in my mind. ... Even though I didn't have class today, I still had to make two trips to the east side of town. The first trip was to talk with my instructor about my second paper. I had a vague idea what my thesis was going to be, but I still needed to talk it over with her to make sure that I was heading in a valid direction. It was something that she had requested of everyone in the class, it wasn't as though she was doing anything special for me. We were also told to bring our first paper with us as a starting point of discussion. She didn't want us to fall into any bad writing patterns. As I was heading to her office, I saw Carrie walking my way. She said that she had just finished talking with the instructor and was going home. I had hoped that I might see Stephanie to see how she was doing, but it didn't happen. ... Talking with my instructor always puts things into a different perspective for me. Sometimes I let myself think that I have a fairly good understanding of the English language but after listening to her I start to wonder. What I mean is that she manages to read so much more into a novel than I do. I also realized that I don't pay as close of attention to the words as she does. I suppose that this is a good thing since she is the one with the Ph.D. and not me. Naturally I've heard it said that women have better verbal skills than men, but I also have the feeling that eight years worth of business brainwashing has deadened my ability to think. Hearing the people at work use the same acronyms day after day doesn't really help my expand my vocabulary either. ... The second trip to the east side also had to do with my instructor. Rather than having class, she had invited us to her house to watch a movie. Instead of reading another book version of East Lynne we were going to watch the movie Mrs. Doubtfire, which has some of the same elements in it. Foremost would be the idea of a parent returning to their children using a disguise.
