the sternwood residence

Five in the morning on a Monday is a great time to be awake. Actually I crawled out of bed at quarter to four this morning and have been on the computer ever since. I always seem to be able to think better before sunrise. Then again maybe sleeping for over twelve hours has something to do with my improved concentration.

I love this time of the day. I truly do. Everything is so quiet and I think that that was something that was missing from my life these past few days. Whenever I wanted to relax I couldn't because of my downstairs neighbor. I need to have some quiet time and if I can't get that at the place where I live, then I am lost and irritable. Why should I live here if I can't be happy seems to be the question that keeps going through my mind.

While I cleaned this morning, Bogart and Bacall kept me entertained in the background.

As a precaution and peace of mind, I changed the lock on my door today. Things might get out of hand once it is known that I am moving this month.

Today might have been the first day of October, but it felt more like summer. Somehow I know that these days aren't going to last that much longer so I am going to enjoy them while I can. Having the windows open will soon be something that can't be done.

Most of the afternoon was spent reading The Color Purple for class and I must confess that it is something that I would not have read on my own. I can see some value in the book, but Alice Walker will never be a favorite author of mine. Despite my opinion of the book, I imagine that the discussion in class tomorrow should be a lively one. The subject matter is controversial enough, but I also know that the author is a personal favorite of the instructor.

If I ever become a professor I hope that I don't have an ax to grind or personal agenda to inflict on others. Maybe that isn't possible in the academic world.
