seven thousand miles

Rain was what I saw when I opened the blinds this morning. After days and days of sun in a clear blue sky, it was the first rain that I had seen since I moved here and in some ways it was a welcome change of pace. The weather that we have been having is not what should be happening in November. When snow actually hits the ground I think that everyone here is going to be completely surprised.

...

Late this morning I did a dumb guy thing. On my way to sign some papers I drove past where she works. When I drove past the first time I thought about stopping by to say hello, but I didn't. On the return trip I couldn't resist anymore and found myself pulling into the parking lot. Soon I was walking through the front door and trying to see if she was there without looking too unusual.

Naturally I didn't see her and walked back out to my car still wondering what I would have said if I had seen her.

Maybe it was for the best that I didn't see her. We both seem to going forward with our lives just fine and maybe all that was supposed to be said was said. Then again at one time I am sure that my appearance there would have been a romantic gesture. Time really does change everything.

There was no Hollywood moment where I stood in the rain holding a portable radio over my head. All there was was me walking back to my car wondering why I got out in the first place.

...

School is starting to wear on me and I am seriously looking forward to winter break. Of the past three semesters, I would have to say that I have enjoyed this one the least and some of my motivation seems to be waning. Oh, I'll be going back in the spring, but at the same time I am definitely going to savor all of the free time that will be mine again after the thirteenth of December. I need more time to just cocoon as it were in my new home.
