arsenic and whatever

When I got home from class yesterday, there was a box sitting outside by my front door. It was the replica of the Rodin sculpture that I had ordered. No, I did not get a copy of The Thinker or The Kiss. I got something a little less well known. A plaster copy of the Danaid now sits on my bedroom dresser.

Horoscope for today:

Why does authority always win? The truth is, it only wins most of the time. If you change the system at its roots rather than the way you've been working, you'll get much more done without wearing yourself out. The wise man once said that the strong take away from the weak, while the smart take away from the strong. Your job over the next few days is to be smart, to stay strong and to work the system so real progress can be made.

Some of that makes sense to me, but at the same time I have no idea what people see in horoscopes.

Random pop culture question for the moment: Why is Vanessa Williams singing with Tony Bennett? I know that they did a Christmas album together called Our Favorite Things, but it still makes me wonder. I guess that the love of music does cross many boundaries. Actually the whole generation of crooners such as Frank Sinatra completely misses me. I don't get. Old men from the nineteen forties aren't hip.

Speaking of music, the lovely Diana Krall was also on Conan O'Brien last night. Ozzy and Diana on the same show is definitely crossing boundaries.

Arsenic and Old Lace was the play for tonight and I have to admit that that kind of humor does not appeal. Oh, the film with Cary Grant is tolerable, but the play is anything but funny to me. Judging from the reaction of the people around me, I think that my opinion is in the minority. Everyone else seemed to think that it was the funniest thing on the planet.

Maybe it has something to do with the time of the year, but the play was packed. I don't think that there was an empty seat in the house. Then again maybe people really do like Arsenic and Old Lace more than I thought. Personally I would have preferred to see something less classic and or slapstick.

Ann is in love again. Her man from Norway is everything that she had hoped for and more. Sigh.
