my dear nicole

Yesterday was exhausting, but that didn't make it a bad day. In fact there was more than one emotional high that I want to mention in more detail. I just wanted to upload something to demonstrate why my presence here has been so erratic. Finding time to type something up these past few days was very hard to do. Now I am going to go back in time and try to fill in some of the gaps.

Monday morning at work Nicole was her charming self and I found myself basking in her glow for the first time in weeks. I had missed her and spending that time with her was something I eagerly welcomed.

After seeing some photos of Santa and her son, I wasn't that surprised to learn that things are not well between her fiance and her. The past four years with him have not been pleasant, but she is determined to stay with him for the sake of her son. Now I realize that today that that kind of a sentiment is not appreciated by the mass media and or pop culture. More than one person would probably tell her to flee and do it on her own, but she wants her son to be happy even if that means sacrificing her own happiness.

Even though I couldn't do much more than listen it was good to have her back in my life. For a while there I had thought that I had lost her completely. Very seldom would she spend any time with me and I wasn't sure why. Now I suspect that she was keeping her distance, because of her fiance. It seems that he had been giving her a hard time for exchanging email with a male coworker who as she pointed out is married as well. She said that she has no interest in him, yet still had to explain this to her fiance.

Trust has been a problem for Nicole and her fiance from the very beginning when she did stray a little.

Shifting to Tuesday morning, I was struggling to look busy for the final half an hour of work when Nicole was suddenly standing next to me looking very upset. I hadn't seen her all night and was happy to see her. In my mind two days in a row of Nicole is truly a positive in life.

This time it wasn't her fiance causing her problems, but her boss. The woman has not been given a raise in two years and her boss can never give her a reasonable explanation as to why. She knows how to do the job and is one of the most senior people in the department, yet she is probably one of the lowest paid people there.

None of this was new, but she had wanted to confront him about it and he brushed her aside which made her fume even more. I listened and agreed with what she said, but knew that there was very little that I could do to help her. I have very little influence at work and do my best to stay out of trouble. All that I could do was tell her to try and not let it ruin her weekend.

Then she wandered off showing me the hole in her jeans saying that she would keep wearing them until her butt cheek was fully exposed.

Sigh. That girl deserves better in life, but I have no idea how to help her.

...

I regretted not having been able to talk again with Heidi before the semester ended. Part of me suspects that the two of us would have had fun on a date, but now I'll never know. In sitcom if not Shakespeare fashion I was probably focusing my attention on the wrong woman. I mean Heidi told me where she worked and if I had been paying attention, her phone number would have been offered as well.

In addition to the social side of it, I have to say that the semester was just as good academically speaking. Even though I have yet to get my final grades, I think that I learned some valuable things this semester. There may have been times when a lecture seemed to be circular, but I'll miss school during the break. Having someone wanting me to think is something that I need in my life.

...

Now that have free time again, I watched some movies tonight. It was a double feature with Alicia Silverstone being the link between the two movies, Clueless and Love's Labour's Lost. Both of them are based on literature, but take very different directions with the source material.

Then in an even more odd twist, when I was finished watching Love's Labour's Lost there was a television special on Macbeth that made me count all of the Shakespeare films that I own. In my collection are six different plays including two versions of Hamlet, King Lear, Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing and Richard III.

It's been a while since I watched any of them or seen Shakespeare done on stage.
