Half an hour after midnight, I sat down with a bowl of vegetable soup and started to watch the movie Insomnia. When it was done I decided that it has to be one the few films where I didn't mind seeing Al Pacino. More often than not the man bothers me because everything that he does seems to revolve around over acting. This time he was more low key and enjoyable to watch. Robin and Hilary also did a nice job.

My friend Jen had warned me that the film was extremely bright, but that may have been more painful on the big screen than on my nineteen screen in my living room.

From past experience I tend to find Arthur Miller to be depressing and All My Sons followed that pattern tonight. That isn't to say that I didn't like the play. It was well acted, but the story wasn't exactly uplifting. Death and familial disappointment are common themes in his work and I can only take so much of that kind of thing.

In little over a week I'll be thousands of miles from home and it doesn't seem real yet. Some worries have crept into my subconscious though. For example, the other day I dreamt that I had got to the airport and forgotten my passport and tickets. That has never happened to me, but I always go through a checklist when I get into the car to go to the airport.

Being in a foreign land always makes me happy and I don't expect any less from New Zealand.
