pop culture highlights On the way into work last night and the return home this morning, I listened some more to Henry Rollins talking in Australia. A couple of tracks were about his image and how people perceive him or conversely how so few people know about him. Since he is Henry he had to put a spin on this by calling himself a rock and roll ninja. What this means is that he releases albums, but no one hears them. He goes on tour, but no one sees him. Personally I think that that is a pretty good attitude to have in an industry where so many people get caught up in their own hype. ... Changing gears, I read a number of reviews on Amazon about Madonna's latest album American Life and have yet to form an opinion about it. Now I'm not saying that I've been a fan of hers from the beginning, but at the same time the woman does have a way of marketing herself and she does get my attention from time to time. Plus unlike poor Henry she very seldom strays that far from the media spotlight. So far I've only heard the single and the Die Another Day track, but from what I have read online I shouldn't expect this to be just like her last album called Music. I may have to do some downloading in the next day or two. ... Okay. Let's forget for a moment that I am a reasonably calm, fairly mature man of thirty three with a mortgage, car payments and a steady job. Good. Now I can shout the following: The two part season finale of Alias fucking rocked. Okay. No more shouting. To put it another way, X2 was okay, but it didn't make me shout at the screen like Alias did. Thankfully the writers tied up the evil Francie thread before the summer. That was the first good move that they made, because if they hadn't I would have been very disappointed. The second good move was the time gap ending. Now on some of the message boards that I checked various people thought that this was an easy way out, but I disagree. By having that happen they have freed Sydney from the should I trust my mother or not cycle that was starting to wear thin. Now in the fall anything can happen. |
