half asleep again

Part of the afternoon was spent floating around in the pool using the latest issue of The New Yorker as a shade when I got tired of reading it. Annie Proulx had a short story in there about a Montana rancher. The story didn't stray at all from her usual style. He was tired and disillusioned by most of what he saw around him, yet what he said and did made sense. Even though he might seem pathetic at first he ends up being the quiet hero in the end. I guess that that is what draws me to her writing. None of her characters are happy people, but they are very real.

For the second year in a row The Milwaukee Rep mailed me my season tickets on this day. The season itself looks like a nice mix of traditional and more modern material. Personally I am looking forward the most to seeing Richard III.
