loose plot ends

With the end of daylight savings time during the early morning hours, I had an extra hour of work added to my shift. It was quiet enough so it didn't bother me that much and with that additional time I managed to get a little further into A Trip to the Stars.

Two thirds through the book, I am almost starting to agree with some of the more negative reviews that I have read on Amazon. Some people have commented that the author likes to insert odd pieces of information into the book that have nothing to do with the story. I can't deny that the insertions are there, but I am still hoping that everything comes together in the end. With two hundred pages left that may or may not happen.

At the moment Mala is living on Naxos and that brings me to my next point.

Last week Thursday there was a guest speaker in class who had worked in New Zealand, but left that job to come to Milwaukee. He said that living on an island was too remote for him. Hearing him say that confused me. I personally can't see how a person could leave living in New Zealand for Milwaukee. I'll admit that Milwaukee has some charms, but for me they don't compare with what I saw in New Zealand. He then when on to say that the feeling of being away from everything happens to people who live in Hawaii for any length of time and that didn't make sense to me, because I see New Zealand and Hawaii as being two very different places. When I was in Hawaii, all that I saw was a combination tourist trap, military base and a poor native population caught between them. It was not a place that impressed me. New Zealand, however, seemed like an ideal place to live.

Late in the day when I was eating a peanut butter sandwich and washing it down with a glass of orange juice, I remembered something. It was two years ago on this date that I moved into my place.
