randomly selected target These past three days have not been happy ones for me and today was the worst yet with a mental blow landing on me as I made my way to class. Here are the details as I remember them. I was making my way east following the rest of the traffic and not really paying attention to much of anything else. The commute is not something that I enjoy and will not be missed during the winter break. Then it happened. Sitting on the side of the road was a sheriff's car and just like everyone else around me I slowed as quickly as possible. Apparently that wasn't enough as I saw a red flash directed at me and then saw the car pull away from the side of the road after me. Sigh. Soon both cars were on the side of the road and the officer and I were performing a dance that I find insulting at best. Officer Friendly: Do you know why I pulled you over?
Sigh. Whatever. Then as he was sitting in his car filling out his paperwork, I watched car after car speed by well over the posted limit. His sitting on the side of the road didn't deter anyone else. That whole conversation between the two of us was moronic as far as I am concerned. He had already made up his mind as to what he was going to do and I had to play the game. It never occurred to him that I was doing the ambient speed around me and that if I went any slower I may have caused an accident. The best part was when I exited on to a different highway, another police car followed me for miles. I felt like waving the speeding ticket out my window at him. Was this a two for one special? Did I miss the advertised sale? Apparently my sports car was enough of a reason to profile me and it made me think that much less of them as people and I use that word loosely. Maybe I should have told him that I was hurrying to buy a bag of crack. |
