Yesterday was all about indulging in some of my eccentric interests with a break here and there to do some cleaning. Sadly, what I managed to write about it didn't capture very many details.

As I said, the early morning hours of the day were spent reading, but that would be a general description at best. What I should have said is that I was caught up in a story about a daughter and son trying to return their magician father to modern day Manhattan. If I had written that sentence, I would have been happier with the entry.

Led on by the mysterious Veronica, Leo the unwitting hero gets deeper and deeper in something that he doesn't understand and neither did I as I read the book. Every so often a blue and gold bird would fly by and just like Leo I had no idea what that meant. Nor did I understand the symbolism of oranges in the book.

Besides the story elements of the book, I was also very drawn to the phrases that Christopher used in the novel. Over and over when Veronica would use a key to open a lock the tumblers would make a sound like two stones clicking underwater. For some reason that small piece of mental imagery is what I will remember the most from the book.

Staying within the realm of the written word, I didn't pause that long in my reading, because I wanted to keep the momentum going. Once I was done with Veronica, I surveyed my pile of unread books and made a new selection. The Life of Pi took over the spot that Veronica held and so far I am happy with my choice. Just as the grim world where The Scar took place was left behind for a magical version of Manhattan, New York gave way to the heat of India. Variety in books is key for me.

Visiting my local library at noon today, I left with three books on Russia. One of them was published by National Geographic in the 1970's, but I still wanted to read it despite the outdated information. How could I possibly leave a book with so many wonderful photos in it lying on the shelf?

Someone at work asked me when the semester started and I asked why. As much as I enjoy school, I am in no hurry to go back and want my winter break to last as long as possible. All of this free time is something that I have missed these past few months and I want to use it the best that I can. The freedom to be able to sit around reading books and or watching movies is great. Besides the recent weather lends itself to those kinds of activities.

I so want to put a Doctor Who image at the front of the site, but I can't seem to find anything that fits my needs. Oh, I wouldn't keep it there for very long, but Deborah Watling as Victoria looked quite yummy in her very British hunting outfit.
