carefully watching television

It wasn't a conscious decision, but I haven't been watching that much television this year. In fact tonight was the first time in over a month that I saw an episode of Alias. For a while, it was part of my Sunday routine before I left for work, but that came to a stop somewhere at the start of the holiday season last year. During that time I taped it thinking that I'd get to see it when I had some free time. Somehow I never got around to watching them and I'm not sure why either. It wasn't as though I had grown tired of the show. In fact I had hoped that someone would buy either of the two seasons on DVD for me this past Christmas, but that didn't happen.

Speaking of shows that have lost my interest, Smallville which aired a new episode last week Wednesday falls into that category. At one time that program had such promise with a very convincing Clark Kent and the charismatic presence of Lex Luthor nicely done by Michael Rosenbaum. Now it seems to be bogged down with teen romance and angst with little regard to character development. I could care less if Lana looking hurt walks away from Clark one more time. It has no meaning to me and I wish that they would focus more on the myth created in the book rather than fumbling along week after week with adolescent social dynamics.

At least Angel was able to make me smile last week Wednesday by letting Mercedes McNab shine as Harmony. Character wise she has to be the most interesting person in the cast second only to Spike.
