coffee and cigarettes

Last night strong summer thunderstorms rolled through the area and apparently this was big news. What I mean by big news is that all three of the local news stations saw fit to have running commentary on where and what the storms were doing in the area instead of airing their normal broadcasting. Once I was made aware of this natural disaster in progress, I started to watch out my bedroom window. There far off in the distance I could make out lightning filling the sky every so often. From my perspective it didn't seem menacing at all. In fact I went out on my deck to get a better view of the action.

Eventually the rain started to fall on the street in front of my house. Feeling safe I watched as it came and went outside my window. Since the storm was moving at fifty miles per hour, it lasted all of fifteen minutes and was gone. I was spared any damaging wind and or hail. Instead of anything negative happening, I was treated to a gorgeous yellow crescent moon hanging low in the west once the clouds parted from the sky.

I suspect that Jim Jarmusch is not a household name when it comes to movies, but ever since I first saw Night on Earth a decade or so ago, I've been eager to see what he will do next. His latest offering Coffee and Cigarettes was playing on the east side of Milwaukee and I made the trip there late this afternoon to see it. What I got to see was about eight or so vignettes of various well known people drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. Yes, that is all that happened and I guess that that was enough.
