blue bell knoll

For the past three days my motivation level has been almost non existent and I'm not sure why either. Generally speaking things in my life have been going well for me. I have a girlfriend who I love and loves me. My family is doing well. Work my usual source of misery has been fairly calm and I'm already saving money for my journey to China. On the surface I can't see any reason for me to be depressed. I guess I'm starting to wonder what I want to do next with my life and I can't seem to find the answer soon enough.

Maybe I just need to relax and enjoy summer. Perhaps a calmer state of mind will let me make these kinds of decisions without getting too distressed about it.

Years ago I bought the album Blue Bell Knoll by the Cocteau Twins. I may have seen their video on 120 Minutes on MTV, but I can't be sure if that is what prompted me to buy it. Maybe someone in my circle of friends circulated their album to me. Whatever the cause may have been for my introduction to them, I can say that up until I heard The Delays, I never heard anyone else sing like their lead singer did.

Liz Fraser did some amazing things with the English language. It wasn't until today that I discovered that there might be actual words in the song Carolyn's Finger. About the only word that I clearly understood was attitude. Everything else was a swirl of sound that I loved more than I can explain. It was pure sound that transcended anything else that I had heard. Words didn't matter. Of course an entire album of said sound was a little hard on my system and very seldom was I able to listen to the disc all of the way to the end.

Somewhere along the way I parted with the disc and it wasn't until today that I felt the need to hear Carolyn's Fingers again. Thanks to the magic of online downloads that was an easy wish to grant.

The Finnish film The Cuckoo has a great premise and charmed me far more than Ridicule did. Three characters who all speak different languages are brought together towards the latter part of World War II. They can't understand one another, but continue to talk to each other anyway. The comedic results are probably fairly obvious, but it was enough to make me laugh.
