some russian art These past four days have not been that productive and or insightful for me, but I guess that that is okay. The way that I see it any time away from work is always a good thing so it doesn't matter that much if my time away is spent doing productive things or just staring off into space. At least when I stare off into space at home, there is no one around to ask me what I am doing. Now having just said that I did very little this week, I did do a few things that had been bothering me or that needed to be done, I just didn't mention them here. Mentioning that I got my haircut, bought groceries, did laundry and paid some bills isn't that interesting. So in my defense I didn't spend all of my free time in front of the television even though it may have sounded that way by what I wrote. There was one major difference between this week and last week. This time I may not have been that productive, but I wasn't depressed. Being unfocused is annoying, but being depressed on top of being lost is not something that I enjoy. My intellectual stimulation for the day came in the form of a movie called Russian Ark. From a technical standpoint it has the distinction of being the longest film ever done in one continuous shot. There are no edits. They started the camera rolling and didn't stop until an hour and a half later. They had two false starts and the third one was what became the final product. Now my knowledge of Russian history isn't that strong so I didn't recognize most of the historical characters until they were named in the movie. That didn't take away from the visual aspect of the Hermitage though. The place looks amazing and is one of the reasons that I want to go to St. Petersburg. |
