After a streak of highs in the eighties, a day with more seasonal temperatures felt very nice. Something about a cool breeze making its way through the house made for a relaxing day, where all that I wanted to do was read. Plus with the arrival of my monthly shipment of comic books there was plenty of reading material on hand. Here are some of the highlights from the stack:

  • Elaine, Michael and Lucifer tried to head off Fenris before he got to Yggdrasil.
  • Yorick's sister Hero has more than a few emotional problems to resolve.
  • Brad Meltzer made me long for the 1970's era of the Justice League of America.
  • Christian agreed to train Calista in how to use her powers.
  • Gail Simone brought an end to the current version of the Legion.

Two issues into the Chaos story, I'm not that annoyed by what Brian Michael Bendis is doing with The Avengers. That might change next month, but at the moment I am still willing to give him a chance to impress me.

Early this evening I saw the sequel to Resident Evil and I have to say that I prefer the first one. Just as was the case with the Alien movies, the second one was more about guns and less about suspense. The Ten Little Indians feel of the original Resident Evil was what appealed to me the most about the movie. It was obvious that people were going to die, it was just a matter of who would die first and who would live. To some degree that is true this time around, but Alice didn't have as much of the spotlight. For some reason the makers of the movie felt the need to up the sex appeal of the movie by introducing a second woman who loves to shoot guns. I guess that it makes sense, but it didn't really add that much to the story for me. Now it looks as though Alice will be the enemy in the third one, but I'm not sure if I really care to see that one or not.

As I was reading Peter Hessler's River Town, something occurred to me. I love to travel, but at the moment my sister Hope and my brother are seeing more of the world than I am. This has to do with their military connections so not all of it is positive. For example, I do not envy my sister's year long exile in Iraq. As for attending military school in Arizona, that might be more tolerable.
