bad movie selections Normally I watch foreign or art house style films, but to make things a little lighter I mix in some anime and B grade thrillers. Cutey Honey was my anime choice and The Glow with Portia DeRossi and Dean Cain fulfilled the thriller requirement for today. Now having seen both of them I am more than ready to see another foreign film. Both of them were bad. Yes, my expectations for Cutey Honey weren't very high, but I thought that it would at least have some interesting visuals. Seeing an animated woman bursting out of various costumes got old faster than I had imagined. Plus the duo of the grandpa and grandson really wore on me. The live cosplay sequence in the special features was not something that I was expecting to see, but made me perk up. It made photos from American gaming conventions look ordinary. As for The Glow, I wasn't scared in the least. Personally I just wanted it to end after the first half hour. ... These past few days were very lethargic for me and I blame part of that on the less than cheery weather. I don't think that I have seen the sun in days. Oh, there may be some fall colors in the area, but when the sky is a solid gray there isn't much of a contrast there to enjoy them. A blue sky is needed to get the full effect of the golds and reds of the tress. So far that has yet to happen this season and time is running out. ... Just as I was about to completely walk away from anything that Marvel offers, I read the latest issue of The Fantastic Four and found something that made me want to read it again. Mark Waid did something new with Sue and Johnny. He switched their abilities. Now Sue can ignite and John can disappear. I suspect that this won't be a permanent change, but it is a fresh twist for the book. Plus seeing that John becomes the new herald of Galactus in the near future, I may need to add the book to my monthly pull list again. |
