calm night happy

For the first time in weeks I worked a Friday night at work by myself and it was a nice change of pace. Oh, I have nothing against the other person who usually works that shift with me, but the night was calm and I had time to do some personal projects when it wasn't that busy. In fact by the time that I walked out the door in the morning, any lethargy from the middle of the week was gone. I was myself again and that positive mood carried over through the rest of the day. It was not something that I had been expecting to happen.

...

A decade ago Valiant was the up and coming comic book company in the market. They were setting new industry standards with the quality of their books and winning fans over from the big two. Hopes were high and many people were upset when the company collapsed almost as quickly as they had gained attention. This afternoon I revisited that era by reading a handful of X-O Manowar books.

The concept was simple yet different at the time. A man from the fifth century came into control of an alien piece of hardware that he could wear as a form of armor. As to how he came to have the armor is something that I don't know. The issues that I own and read are a year into the story so that part is a blank to me. Where I started reading he already has a good working knowledge of the armor and is in the twentieth century.

Despite not knowing the full story, which for me is part of the allure of comic books, I like what I have read. I may even have to get the earlier issues sometime in the near future. Not only do I get some early art by Bart Sears, but these issues aren't that expensive. When the company was still around the flooded the market with an abundance of copies so that when they finally went under any value that they might have had disappeared.
