tinkering with genes Two hundred pages into Oryx and Crake, I still have no idea how the book is going to end, but that doesn't really matter that much to me, because I have never been much of a plot person. When it comes to books, I prefer characterization and new ideas instead of trying to answer the question of who killed whom. Thankfully both of those requirements are being met. The narrator and his best friend are not everyday people although in some ways they remind me of Nick and Jay from The Great Gatsby. However, instead of running around with the idle rich, this narrator talks about genetic manipulation and its effect on the world. Somehow his best friend transforms the world with the introduction of a new breed of humans. As to how this came about has yet to be revealed in the book. |
