tegan and sara Thanks to a very intriguing performance Tuesday night on The Conan O'Brien Show, Tegan and Sara are my new musical find of the moment. Their mere three minute performance had me sitting as close to the screen as possible listening to every word that the lead singer sang. Here was this girl with a bowl cut of sorts singing in an altered voice about walking with a ghost. That one sample was enough to send me online to find more of their stuff. I had to know who they were and what they had done. Now their song I Bet It Stung from So Jealous is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. ... Thunderstorms and strong bouts of rain through the afternoon and into the night were enough to melt nine inches worth of snow that had been covering the ground. Last week when that snow had yet to arrive, the weather forecasters here were in a heightened state of alert. We the public had to be prepared. We had to ready ourselves for this storm. We had to take measures. Warnings were issued hour after hour, because it was coming. At the time I was still caught in the midst of a fever and was starting to think that they were crying wolf. Eventually the snow did fall, but it didn't seem very impressive once I saw it. For all of the excitement that it generated a week ago, the snow didn't stay around that long. Personally I was surprised to see any snow in January. These past few winters here near Milwaukee have been less than impressive. We seem to get the dreary aspect of winter and little else. ... Pre-Crisis era Superman is so appealing to me. Twenty five years I would have nothing to do with Superman. My ten year old mind sought something else. Hero wise I was more drawn to what at the time were lesser known figures and those were to be found over at the House of Ideas. In terms of story, the fabric had yet to become a crazy quilt of lost plot lines and too many minor characters. I could still care about those mutants who just wanted to live in their private school. Things were so different then. Emma Frost was still considered evil and no one had heard of Genosha. Now I am far happier reading about Kal-El trying to decide what to do about Lois. |
