I was in the mood for something from Bollywood, so I had Netflix send me a film called Chameli. My Indian crush Kareena Kapoor was the female lead playing a prostitute opposite a stranded businessman. It was quite different from either Asoka or Lagaan, but then again both of those films were period pieces. Chameli was very modern in setting and theme. I can't say that I was overly impressed by the movie, but it was interesting to see yet another aspect of Bollywood. ... George Orwell is usually a fixture on either high school or college reading lists, but I've never read anything by him. So tonight when I saw the film 1984 with John Hurt playing Winston, it was all new to me. Oh, I knew about Big Brother and a totalitarian government, but the love story was a shock to me. I never what crime he had committed or what else happened in the story. Now it remains to be seen if I will ever get around to reading the book or maybe Animal Farm. |
