waukesha to dousman August is over and once again I don't know how this month went by so fast or what I did for most of it. From what I can remember, I was either working or riding my bicycle on my days off. Of those two things, I am more proud of the latter. Whenever I rode, I felt as though I was achieving something. Looking at my calendar, I rode thirteen days this month with yesterday being my best day of the summer. Instead of riding the trail by my place, I pedaled along a paved one that crosses a good portion of the lower section of the state. The trail isn't new to me. Years ago I had tried it a few times, but hadn't been back until last week. That first taste made me want to go back and I am glad that I did today. Two hours after I had started I had completed a loop of twenty five miles and felt great. ... Before sunrise this morning, I watched the movie Garden State. I knew that I had liked the movie, but there were some parts that I had forgotten and those recovered details made me like it more than I had remembered. For being a first effort, I am amazed at how polished it seems. So much of the dialogue is very real to me and that's what appeals to me the most. The way that Andrew and Sam interact rings true. ... Batman has never held that much appeal for me, but I do like one of his supporting characters and I don't mean Alfred or Robin. I'm talking about one Selina Kyle, Catwoman. Some time ago, I bought issues of her previous series online and finally got around to reading them today. If one can get past the titular drawing of Jim Balent which in fairness is quite good, the writing tone provided by Chuck Dixon makes the book shine. Selina has a sharp wit and knows what she wants from life. I liked what I read so much that I want to get the rest of the series and maybe start to read her current incarnation. ... My latest musical find is Martha Wainwright. I can't remember if I saw something about her in The New Yorker or if Amazon had suggested her to me. What I do know is that I like her sound with my favorite song being "When the Day is Short." |
