early diagonal bit By what I say and do, I may not seem like much of a romantic to most people, so it might come as a surprise to hear that I seriously liked the movie The Girl in the Cafe. Without having to think about it, I can say without hesitation or doubt that my enjoyment had everything to do with Kelly MacDonald in her role as Gina, the charmingly soft spoken yet direct title character more than anything else. Every little thing that she did onscreen made me smile be it the way that she moved, talked or just sat in a booth. Through her body language she was someone that I wanted to know or at least be near if I could. She had that strong of an effect on me even though she was a fictional person who I will never meet in life. Besides Kelly's charming physical movements, her clothing made me want to hold her in my arms, because all of it was so warm and inviting. Her fashion sense appealed to me so much that if I were a woman I am convinced that I would dress like her. I could easily see myself walking around in bell sleeve tops and chunky coats. For me that simple look of comfort epitomizes the girl next door look that I adore and I truly love the women who can emulate it so well. Years ago when I first saw Kelly in the movie Trainspotting, I thought that she was cute, but wasn't sure at the time if she was old enough to be considered for a crush. That probably came about because of the role that she had in the movie. She played a schoolgirl who had seduced an older Mark Renton, who was very upset when he found out her true age. So at the time I was very sympathetic towards him. Now I know better about her age and can pine over her without any awkward feelings about age. In fact, she is a mere seven years younger than me and I have no problems with that age gap. Putting aside my obvious infatuation with Kelly, I have to say that the dialogue between Bill and her was probably the funniest that I have heard in some time. The two of them actually made me laugh out loud more than once as I was watching the movie and that is not something that happens very often. |
