Yesterday my mood improved immensely once I sat down to watch a performance of The Winter's Tale. Seeing Shakespeare generally has that effect on me. Now I know that I have said it before, but I will say it again. When it comes to Shakespeare, I prefer his tragedies to his comedies. For me, the comedy seems too extreme and generally makes me wince. Sadly, the second act of The Winter's Tale falls into that category. We go from the usual scene of royalty to the country bumpkins and their antics.

It was the first time that I had ever seen that play done on stage and I was glad that I went. I can't say that I remember any striking quotes from the evening, but maybe the next time that I see it something will stay with me.

Frost still blanketed my front yard when the sun came up this morning. In some ways it was a welcome sight. The fall color hasn't really reached its peak so to see everything coated in white was very impressive.

Last night it was Shakespeare and tonight it was something completely modern on the stage. The Milwaukee Rep did a production of The Clean House. I can't say that I was overwhelmed by the play, but it was enjoyable enough and was an interesting contrast to Shakespeare. Instead of the woes of royalty, we were given a glimpse into a world that is a little closer to home with some magic realism thrown into the mix.
