slow down saturday

After seeing plays for two nights in a row and struggling through my first night back at work, all that I wanted to do this morning was sleep and that is exactly what I did once I got home. Correction. After watching an almost upbeat film from Netflix called Strictly Sinatra, I went to sleep.

My primary reason for renting Strictly Sinatra was to see the ever charming Kelly Macdonald. I never tire of her Scottish accent and find it exciting when my girlfriend imitates her. As for the movie itself, it was very middle of the road for me. Seeing it was neither a waste of time nor a memorable experience.

Often in the world of comic books a certain writer and or artist becomes strongly associated with a title or character. For Captain America, Mark Gruenwald and his ten-year run on the book has placed him securely next to Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Englehart and Roger Stern. For a year or so, I was reading the book during his stint, but wasn't impressed enough to stay with it. I don't blame him. At the time almost everything that Marvel was producing held no interest for me. Besides once Steve Rogers took back the role of Captain America the excitement was gone.

Now thanks to online auctions, I have another chance at reading some of the classic Gruenwald run. A mere five books into the stack, I can see why he was so popular on the book. He gave Steve a strong supporting cast of interesting characters. Besides Sam, Bernie and jack, he also introduced Rachel and Dennis. Plus he elevated such long time characters the Red Skull and The Viper to new levels of greatness.

On the music front, I've gotten back into early U2 with their debut effort Boy getting the most play in my car. As for new music, the bands Guster and Matt Pond PA are my two alternating choices. Neither of these two bands debuted that recently. Both of them have a catalog of at least two albums. I just didn't become aware of them until this month. That happens to me more than I would like when it comes to music.
