luck in life Woody Allen is known for having very attractive women in his movies and Match Point was no exception with the lovely Scarlett Johansson playing the lead female role. Now as much as I like seeing her work, the story itself was what really sold me on the film. Allen is usually thought of as a comedic director, but when he does a film with a strong commentary on how people treat one another, my respect for him is even greater. Just like Martin Landau in the film Crimes and Misdemeanors, a man murders someone and isn't punished for it. The reason for his escape from justice is just as much a matter of luck than anything else. Maybe if one small event had gone another way, the man would have been held accountable for his actions instead of being able to go forward with his life. After seeing the film, one might ask him or herself why worry about having morals at all when there may not be any repercussions for not having any. There might not be some all seeing controlling force that can inflict pain and suffering if the rules aren't followed. Why not cheat? Why not grab as much as you can with little regard for anyone else? |
