oh poor marie The latter half of October went by without a single word from me here. That was not my intention, but as John Lennon has often been quoted as saying, life what is happens to you while you are busy making other plans. So what was I doing during that time? Many things would be the quick and sarcastic answer, but I'm not sure if I have the energy for a longer and or more detailed one. What I will share is that I asked my girlfriend of three years to marry me and she said yes. No date has been set at this time. We are simply enjoying the moment and telling those who need to know. ... My brother has left Iraq and we believe is now in Kuwait. The United States should be welcoming him soon and this will be the first Thanksgiving in three years where all of my siblings will be present. This would be the second major life altering event that happened during the October silence. ... Ever since I first visited Europe in 2000 and heard her story, I have been an admirer of Marie Antoinette. Without any exaggeration, her life was amazing and that was depicted quite nicely in the Sofia Coppola film with Kirsten Dunst playing said tragic person. The world of royalty has never been a quiet one, but to be the victim of a revolution takes it to another level. Maybe she could have done things differently, but I suspect that her end would still have been less than peaceful. Others have said that that movie was painfully slow for them, but that was not true for me. I loved every moment of it. The lingering shots of the food and clothing were ideal ways to illustrate the excessive lifestyle that she led. Right or wrong, life at times was one big party for her. Plus the modern music playing over eighteenth century life added even more life to the film. For me the message that I took from the film is that people are often thrust into roles that far exceed their will and or personality. Some succeed and others fail. Watching what happens is what makes life interesting and history something to remember. |
