globe trekker beirut Tonight I saw what was probably the most interesting episode of the travel show Globe Trekker that I have seen in a long time. They sent Megan McCormick to Beirut. Now as a recurring caption said during the program, this episode had been filmed in July 2006 two weeks before the hostilities with Hezbollah had began. What made that interesting was the fact that she kept stressing that despite all of the past violence there, it had calmed down enough for tourists to spend some time there. Her words and the overlaid statement were an amusing, but sad contrast. Yes, Beirut may have been a fun travel spot at one point in the twentieth century, but that all went away again this summer. |
