long gone before Early this morning as I was deleting unwanted files from my computer, I listened to The Cardigans' album Lone Gone Before Daylight that was released two years ago and liked what I heard. A while back I had bought their album First Band on the Moon, but I did that in more of a tongue in cheek mode than anything else. Any band that does a cover of the Black Sabbath song Iron Man is worth a listen as far as I am concerned. Plus their version is so mellow. Long Gone Before Daylight however works as an album for me. One song flows into the next without my finger reaching for the skip button. Now if only I had discovered it earlier than I did. Now knowing that they can do more than a collection of singles, I might need to give their latest Super Extra Gravity a closer listen. ... After a less than productive Monday where I slept more than necessary, I was determined to get a few things accomplished today and I did. I stopped at the local Walgreens to get a few more Christmas decorations, got my haircut and returned some things to the library. It had been over two months since my last haircut and it was overdue. The change in length did not go unnoticed this Thanksgiving where one of my sisters made a Farrah Fawcett comment. It seems that there was more than a small amount of feathering in my hair. Personally I felt as though I were emulating Eric Foreman from That 70's Show more than a former angel, but I knew what she meant. I am neither a blonde or a redhead though. ... Unlike many people I do not mind the holiday season and all of the problems that come with it. Yes, there is commercialization. Yes, the retail world goes insane. Yes, the religious groups get angry at people for not remembering why they celebrate the holiday. All of those things do and I suspect will continue to happen for years, but that does not affect me too deeply. I still look forward to purchasing a real Christmas tree to decorate. I still buy gifts for my family to exchange. I even like decorating my house, which is what I did this afternoon as rain fell and thunder echoed. Before I hung the newly purchased strand of lighted garland, I had plugged in the set to make sure that all of the lights lit. Sadly I did not do that with the strand of two hundred white lights that I had used last year. So once everything was in place, I was disappointed to see that the final fifty bulbs on said strand did not light up. Sigh. After removing bulbs one by one trying to find which one was defective, I received a pleasant surprise as I reinserted bulb thirty into the strand. Everything lit up. Yes, I had found the problem by pure accident. ... On Monday night the lovely Kate Winslet was on David Letterman plugging the movie The Holiday and tonight on Conan O'Brien the dashing Jude Law was promoting said film. Between the two of them, I'm not sure who had the more interesting story to tell. Kate relayed a story of how on Good Morning America with Joan Sawyer, they had footage of Kate as a young girl doing a cereal commercial. The funny part was that the girl in the commercial was not her. Kate did not have the heart to tell them that piece of information. Jude told Conan how last year he took his family to Tanzania where they stayed with the Masai. While they were there, the tribe sacrificed a goat for them and fed the kidney to Jude. Since he did not want to be rude, he ate it. While this was happening his vegetarian wife and children were watching. What I do know for certain is that Kate looked quite fetching in her skirt suit. |
