seventy-two songs today

Since I like the current release by The Shins so much, I decided that it was time to give another listen to their earlier stuff. I didn't go back to the beginning though. I just went back to their last album, Chutes Too Narrow. From what I know I believe that the song Kissing the Lipless was the best known single from that disk and that never really appealed to me. However, the same can not be said for the song Gone for Good (A Call to Apathy) that also appears on Chutes Too Narrow. Yes, there is a definite country twang to the song, but the melody is so infectious that one can not resist it. It is not a kind song, but that does nothing to lessen my love for it.

Netflix gave the following synopsis of the film that I watched this morning:

"Director Zhang Ke Jia's first big-budget feature revolves around the tumultuous love affair between two workers at a Chinese theme park -- Tao (Tao Zhao), a dancer who performs extravagant shows, and Taisheng (Taisheng Chen), a patrol officer who can't stay true to her. Through their story, the audience gets an inside look at the heartbreaking lives of the poor men and women who rely on this example of consumerism to eke out a living."

I agree that that is what happens, but I found it to be more emotional than that description. Seeing these everyday Chinese people work within an elaborate stage show of sorts that is so far in contrast to their outside lives was very moving. They exhibit so much excess in their jobs, but have so little in their private lives.

Warren Ellis and Mike Deodato Jr continue to impress me with their work on The Thunderbolts. It pains me a little to see Melissa being moved away from the spotlight, but at least she is still in the book. They could have removed her completely.

In terms of exercise, February was an excellent month for me, because I worked out sixteen out of a possible twenty eight days.

At long last I started to read a new book today. I finished the first couple of chapters of Thirteen Moons.
